UF/Brevard Extension workshops will dig into Turf Practices

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Upcoming workshops offered by University of Florida/Brevard Extension Service focus on turf.

Green Industries Best Management Practices Training: This workshop is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices (BMPs) for anyone spreading fertilizer in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal grounds areas. The Best Management Practices are focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application. Some cities and counties require this certification before bidding or serving commercial customers. This training will be required for all fertilizer applicators in the State of Florida by January 2014. Class will be held at the UF/IFAS Brevard County Extension office in Cocoa, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18. Lunch will be provided. CEU’s available. Registration required. Cost $30.

Golf Course Superintendents Quarterly Workshop: This workshop is intended for golf course superintendents in Brevard County and surrounding counties to increase knowledge of turf management issues. This quarter, the training topic is turf diseases and management. Class will be held at Sherwood Golf Club, 4335 London Town Road., Titusville, from 8 a.m. to noon, Aug. 20. Two CEU’s in Ornamental and Turf category are available for license holders. Registration is required. Ornamental and Turf License Continuing Education Review: This workshop is intended for ornamental and turf license holders to obtain CEU’s needed to maintain an active license. Four ornamental and turf CEU’s are available. Class will be held at the UF/IFAS Brevard County Extension office in Cocoa, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Aug. 14. Registration is required by Aug. 12.
