"America Recycles Day" to be held at Viera Regional Park

VIERA, Fla. -- Recycle Brevard!, Brevard County Parks & Recreation, and Brevard County Solid Waste are co-hosting "America Recycles Day" on Tuesday, November 15 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Viera Regional Park's Rotary pavilion.

A "Toy Swap/Drop Off" will offer parents and children the opportunity to swap their toys or donate unwanted, gently used toys to local children in need through "4 The Kids of Brevard." Brevard County's Solid Waste department will provide information on what can be recycled and days of collection, and will accept recycle bin requests and landfill tour requests. Suntree/Viera Public Library will bring some material to share and will be collecting books/magazines/DVDs. The Brevard Zoo Green Team, BCC Melbourne Environmental Club, Pelly the Pelican (Keep Brevard Beautiful's mascot) and RC, Brevard's Recycle Cat will be there to share information.

The event is free of charge, and the goal is to get residents involved, and to promote the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) through the messages brought by the participants and fun, educational games.

"Anything that we can do to keep toys, or anything else, out of the landfill, is good," said Recycling Educator Erin LeClair. "It's not just about recycling, which is important, but if we can reuse things for other purposes, or share them with others, like in this event, we are helping this generation and the next."

There will also be a collection station for various Terracycle Brigades to help upcycle items that are not normally recycled:
